What is the best time of year to get married?

You’re newly engaged and now it’s time to make one of your first decisions on your wedding planning journey: choosing a wedding date. A whimsical winter wedding, a summer night’s dream or something in between – whenever you choose to get hitched, your big day can certainly be the memorable day you always dreamed of.

Summer

The most popular season for tying the knot, summer offers warm temperatures, long days and plenty of sunshine. This combination makes it perfectly suited to outdoor ceremonies held on the beach, by the lake or in the vines. Make the most of the warmer weather and hold your reception outside too. String fairy lights up so you and your guests can dance under the stars; hold a backyard barbeque reception; or try an outdoor breakfast picnic for something a little different.

Because of summer’s popularity with engaged couples, it pays to book venues and suppliers early as they can book out well in advance.

Winter

While winter’s reputation is often for its cold weather, a mid-year wedding can be truly magical. Picture this: an intimate ceremony while looking out at snowy mountains in the distance; at the reception, your guests enjoy a heart-warming feast next to a cosy fire; and you finally have an excuse to wear that luxurious fur coat you’ve been dreaming about wearing. Sounds good, right?

Brides can glam it up with long-sleeve gowns in winter, while grooms can finally wear that three-piece suit without melting in the heat. Shorter days also mean longer nights, so you and your guests can have more fun dancing the night away if you choose a winter wedding.

Venues and suppliers are usually less busy during the cooler months too, which means you’ll have more choice of dates and venues. Even better, they’ll often charge cheaper rates too!

Autumn

Slightly cooler weather, vibrant natural colours and clear skies make autumn a great choice for couples looking to avoid the more popular peak periods. And like winter, you may be able to pick up cheaper rates with venues and suppliers too.

Embrace the colours of autumn by introducing vibrant reds, oranges and golds into your wedding décor. Why not try a modern Mexican Fiesta wedding style, a red and gold Gatsby wedding; or an elegant affair featuring ruby red hues?

Spring

With flowers in full bloom and lush greenery everywhere, spring is a fantastic time for getting married. Make the most of the abundance of natural beauty this season brings and hold your ceremony in a native forest or botanical garden. Line the aisle with in-season plants and flowers, and be sure to go big and bold with your bouquet.

Spring is the season for the highly sought-after peony too. These luscious flowers have a very limited season (from late-October to mid-December) and are the perfect way to inject a little romance into your big day. You’ll be the envy of all the summer brides!
